Community contest begins! Tim & Eric! Upcoming projects!

Community News 36 Comments »

We officially have selected ten contestants for the Gman Squad community contest. They will be appearing in the members tab of the group, and we’ve already given out one initiation! If we don’t get a response from all of the ten selected, other applicants will fill the missing person(s) spots. If we go at these initiations with a consistency, then there will always be a room for more people to give it a go – so stay tuned if you weren’t selected. We got well over 80 applications and have to go with only a small number since on our end, we’re all balancing busy college and work schedules. Thanks for all that applied and stay tuned for more information on this interactive machinima-based contest.

Also, last Sunday, STEV and I attended Tim and Eric Awesome Tour – Live in Royal Oak, MI (just north of Detroit). We got some sweet pictures. Stev got to go up on stage with Tim and Eric and we saw most of the cast afterwards. Click here for the facebook album – includes pictures of us with the legendary DJ Douggpound, James Quall, Sire, David Liebe Hart, and more. Or you can click on these thumbnails.

On the machinima side of things, I’m still contemplating which of our ideas to go with which may include Gman Squad Episode 7, an action-western movie, a movie parody, and a movie parody-series. One of those should be next on the Works in Progress list.

And as a final note, Jack (“my crundle”, and Santa from Gman Squad Ep. 6) and Stev made a short video together a while ago..back when it wasn’t fucking winter..that they finally got around to uploading called Rick Dragon Meets Triple T. Check it out!

Gman Squad COMMUNITY CONTEST! & some extra videos by other JSers!

Community News, Other News 57 Comments »

(1/26 edit – Stev and I are going to Royal Oak, MI tonight – it’s just north of Detroit – for TIM AND ERIC AWESOME TOUR at the Royal Oak Music Theatre! If you’re in the area, come meet us out in front of the door, at the front of the stage, or at Tania’s Pizza. I’ll be wearing a beaver boys hat. It looks like the show is sold out.)

Hello everyone and it’s time to finally unveil what we’ve mentioned in a number of videos’ credits now – the first ever Gman Squad community contest, filled with fun, trivia, karaoke, and an obstacle course. The winner of the contest will get their very own slot in the group and in upcoming videos. I’ll have to get this out of the way right now, but, don’t do the signup steps for this community contest unless you are totally fine with being humiliated and are cool with singing – you need a microphone and an installed copy of Half-Life Deathmatch Source. The songs we have for karaoke are a tad bit embarassing, to put it lightly. Your singing will be judged in REAL TIME by the likes of judges made up of Gman Squad cast members – which may include myself, STEV, boris, Clyde, Crackbone, DMGaina, Gerald, Zimbabwe, Bulgey, Darkvile, and more. This is your chance to interact with us in character and partake in trivia and an obstacle course! All of it will be just for fun and it’ll be our first chance at finally providing something really interactive for a handful of players.

To officially sign up, you will need to fill out a questionnaire form and email it to thegmansquad[at]gmail.com. If we like it, we will invite you to a special Gman Squad initiation steam group which you will need to accept to be considered officially apart of the contest. The deadline for emailing us your questionairre is MONDAY, JANUARY 26th at 11:59 P.M. So one week from this post. You will be notified if you were accepted via email no later than Tuesday. If you don’t get a response to your email sent, then you were not accepted – sorry in advance. The contestants will be listed as ‘members’ in the steam group and judges will be listed as ‘administrators’. The actual initiations will be conducted at any time from Tuesday, January 27th on until we have gotten through at least 10 contestants. Basically, when there are three or four of us online, we will look up in the steam group to see which of the contestants if any are online, message them if they are ready for their go at it, and then if they are able at the moment to do it, we will provide them with the HLDM:S game server information, custom map, karaoke files, password, and go from there. This will be a spur of the moment, casual type deal. We will IM the accepted contestants when ready – so future contestants, be ready at any moment!

CLICK HERE FOR THE QUESTIONNAIRE FORM

Enjoy and please do consider signing up if you have a mic, HLDM:S, and a decent sense of humor! All are welcome to give it a try!

Crackbone’s Telethon Machinima RELEASED!

Community News 41 Comments »

Now released! The Crackbone Telethon – Crackbone releases a website only to come down with a terminal illness shortly after, and a machinima telethon takes place to raise one million braindawgs in support of Crackbone’s health. A special thanks to MrSentual for doing the mapping and faceposing work and Metallizard for supplying the footage used in one of the commercial sketches. P.S. As of yet, Crackbone has to upload his website, and while that image on his website suits an unintended joke relating to the video (him “working so hard on the website” when all it is is just a picture – this turned out to be a joke in the video’s favor although it wasn’t intended. the picture you see is just his coming soon sign), he will have the real thing up sewn…reel sewn.

Our New Year Update – The next video, Wegame contest, & more

Community News 54 Comments »

1/11 EDIT: A new video releases this upcoming MONDAY.

Hello everyone and welcome to the new year! My new years resolution is 1024×768. That’s pretty 2-3 years ago. Anyway, thought it was time for a site update as there hasn’t been anything since the release of our Christmas Gman Squad episode.

What’s currently in progress is a video that will be a larger piece that basically promotes Crackbone’s new, and as of yet unfinished website – braindawgs.com. Again, it’s something that’d be hard to describe without giving away the nitty, gritty details of the fictional plot. This upcoming video will brand the Source Mod Todd name, although it isn’t really a Source Mod Todd at all. It’s not about any mod, and it’s only focus is a skit revolving the debut of Crackbone’s website. So on that note, it is barely developing to actually be an indirect sequel to our second most popular video out there, the Zombie Competition Source Mod Todd (the first one being Counter-Strike For Kids). Depending on whether Crackbone can get something up or not on his website, this video will probably be released sometime next week, like in the Jan. 9th-12th period, perhaps. Won’t be long.

Also, worthy of a mention, fellow member DMGaina entered a Wegame.com Christmas themed machinima contest and placed in the top ten with his video, Snow After Tomorrow. Congrats to him on that, he was the only GMOD machinima guy amongst nine other World Of Warcraft machinimas. Check his video out on Wegame: Click here.

Lastly, I have to bring some fanbase drama into the mix. As you may have noticed, for something as crazy and offbeat as the Gman Squad series, it is quite popular and has a bit of a cult following. Unfortunately, judging by a lot of the comments and something I’ve yet to mention, its audience revolves in large part around goofy little kids (goofy and immature may not be the right choice of wording here when talking about them compared to us, though.) Basically, what’s been happening since the release of the first three Gman Squad episodes, is that we’ve had a LOT of imitator groups and copycat videos made by some of these kids. Seriously, these kids can’t even come up with a different name than “Gman Squad” for their little groups. Some of these imitators include “Gman Team” or “Kleiner Squad” or “Science Squad” (I guess it’s that hard to come up with two other words than ‘Gman’ or ‘Squad’). Then, worst of all, we have someone who is LITERALLY pretending to be Clyde. I tried messaging him on Youtube, to little avail, but he’s still reportedly going around in game servers pretending to be our characters. Note that HKSniper who plays Clyde has never once gone into a game in that particular character. It’s also starting to get out of hand as HK has told me he’s getting spammed by members of this fake Clyde group. So to set the record straight, beware of the imposters, and don’t think that they are us. We never play HLDM:S unless it’s for moviemaking (if we do, we are liably out of our minds, because we only play it as a joke since the game is itself a joke. It’s a slapped-on port of HL1′s Deathmatch to the Source engine, which has in turn created many poor side effects). Also, the imitator groups’ videos are bad. Real bad. Like, terribly bad. So please don’t mistake their videos for ours, even if they like to do their little pretending, it’s just getting out of hand. Thanks all and expect a new video soon.
